Tell us about 5M feeders
5M Feeders is a family business that raises bottles calves from three days old to 1400 pounds. We have five children ranging in age from 10-19 who are all part owners in our operation. As a family, we work hard daily to feed and take care of our animals for optimal health and to produce a quality consumer product.
What is your favorite part about raising kids on the farm?
Our favorite part of raising our children on the farm is all of the life experiences it offers, as well as working together as a family. Helping them learn a good work ethic and a "don't quit" attitude, no matter the circumstances that life throws at you, is so important to us.

How do your use technology to increase efficiency and animal care on the farm?
We use technology on the farm to monitor the calves average daily intake and average daily gain. We also use technology to monitor temperature and air quality in the barns.
What are you most proud of?
We are most proud of the goals we have set for our farm operation and seeing those goals come to life. We started with just four bottle calves, and today we have a barn that holds seventy calves.
How do you prepare your favorite cut of beef?
We prepare our steaks on our smoker grill with a special seasoning from the Redwood Area Cattlemen's Association.

Feedyard
Cattle spend their final 4-6 months at a feedyard being fed a scientifically-balanced diet and receiving daily care.
Backgrounding
Between 6-12 months of age, cattle spend time at stocker and backgrounder farms and ranches where they graze on a variety of pastures. Here they gain weight and convert forage and grass into lean protein.
Cow/Calf Ranch
Cows are bred and calves are born and raised every year on cow-calf farms and ranches, spending time grazing on grass pastures within sight of their mothers.
