I was welcomed graciously by Jeri and her husband, Jim, when I arrived at the Hanson farm.

Jeri and Jim are the third generation on the Hanson farm. Jeri was raised on a dairy farm east of Sleepy Eye, MN. 

The Hanson's started out raising hogs and eventually transitioned to cattle in 1998. In 2001, J & J Hanson Herefords was established as a registered Hereford Seedstock operation. 

Jeri has always enjoyed working with animals. When the vets would come out to her family's farm as a kid, she was always right by their side interested in what they were doing. This interest led her to attend school to be a veterinarian technician. 

She worked at the Sleepy Eye Vet Clinic for about 10 years until she returned home to the farm. Jeri now tries to do as much of the vet work as she can on their own herd. 

The Hanson's have 70-80 head of registered Hereford cows. They do not retain ownership on their steers. However, they do keep some steers back to be harvested. 

Jeri is another board director that is passionate about what she does every single day. To be honest, you won't find any beef producer that isn't passionate about what they do. 

Cattle have always held a special place in Jeri's heart. Jeri says, "Being with the cattle and going out to watch them, it's just peaceful." 

As I was walking out in the pasture with Jeri, you can hear the true pride in her voice and she talks about each one of the cows and calves in the pasture. 

The passion for these animals is what drives Jeri every day. 

As usual, I ended the conversation asking Jeri why she was proud to be a Minnesota beef farmer. Jeri says, "I'm proud to be a Minnesota beef farmer because the beef is healthy, natural, and of course Minnesota grown." 

For lunch we traveled into a nearby bar and grill. We ate at the "Comfrey Bar and Grill" in Comfrey, Minnesota. This place is a local favorite and their menu explains why.

The menu has a variety of burgers, but I stumbled upon a burger that may seem a bit out of the ordinary for most. I ordered a Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. I'm a huge peanut butter fan so I figured I would give it a try.

I know what you are thinking, "Peanut butter on a burger!?" I'm telling you; it was delicious. I also can't seem to stay away from bacon on my burgers lately! 

This combination was awesome, the saltiness from the bacon and the peanut butter worked very well together. The bun was slightly toasted and the added crunch added to the overall experience of this burger. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. 

The Comfrey Bar and Grill is the place to go if you want to test your adventurous side, especially with the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger.
