There's No Place Like Home
HI! I am Bailee Schiefelbein, and I am the 2023 Minnesota Beef Council Summer Intern.
Growing up on my family's seedstock operation in Kimball, Minnesota, I have been surrounded by cattle and family my whole life.
My full extended family - all 80 of us! My dad and six of his eight brothers farm full time together with six nephews.
As the youngest of three sisters, with two very active parents, I got really good at tagging along to beef meetings, college tours, sheep shows and every sporting event. I followed in my sisters' footsteps and was a Minnesota Beef Ambassador for five years. I showed sheep through 4-H and was active in FFA. Between being a Beef Ambassador and giving tours on our farm, I learned I have a passion for agricultural communications.
One thing I can always count on is my dad supporting his girls! Meet my immediate family - left to right, Abbey (middle sister and Kansas State graduate), Jennifer (my mom, native Texan, and Texas A&M graduate), Don (my dad, Texas A&M graduate), me, and Shelby (oldest sister and Texas A&M graduate). Missing: Connor - the brother-in-law aka "the chicken guy"
I am proud to say I am the first Oklahoma State Cowboy in the family where I am pursuing a dual degree in Animal Science and Agricultural Communications with a minor in AgBusiness. I have been an active member of the Oklahoma Collegiate CattleWomen and got the chance to compete on the 2022 OSU Meat Judging team where we took 3rd place in the International Contest.
The beef council office might be NDSU vs. SDSU, but I'm a Go Pokes girl!
Some of my best memories are being around the Minnesota State Cattlemen's Convention - from allowing others to eat my salad to selling ice cream at FarmFest. I have always felt like the beef community in Minnesota was an extension of my family.
I am looking forward to spending the summer in Minnesota with my family and learning as much as I can about communicating the beef cattle message. I look forward to seeing all of you throughout the summer at various events including the Minnesota State Fair.
