Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Karin Schaefer | September 26, 2018

Ground beef is the most popular cut of beef in America. It is estimated that 40% to 45% of beef is consumed as ground beef, and when beef is prepared for meals eaten at home, ground beef is used 60% of the time. This could be because ground beef is convenient, versatile and a crowd pleaser.

An obvious option for how to prepare ground beef is in the form of tacos, hotdish or even sloppy joes. But this is a staple recipe in our household. Another great tip is to consider browning an extra pound of hamburger and freezing it in a Ziploc container, clearly labeled.

These sliders are made with Hawaiian Rolls. Who doesn’t love Hawaiian Rolls?! I don’t know who invented these suckers, but man, they are addictive and can take any boring sandwich to the next level. The ground beef makes it a crowd pleaser for the whole family.

Ingredients:

1 pound lean ground beef

2 tablespoons butter

1 small yellow onion, diced

1 small green bell pepper, diced

8 ounces brown mushrooms minced

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 cup beef broth

8 ounces Provolone Cheese Slices, chopped (use 6oz if you don’t want it very cheesy)

Hawaiian Bun

Instructions:

1. Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot.

2. Add Ground Beef, cook 8 to 10 minutes, breaking into small crumbles and stirring occasionally.

3. Remove the beef (you can leave the fat) and add the butter and the onions and bell peppers and mushrooms.

4. Let brown for 1-2 minutes before stirring, then let brown for another 1-2 minutes before stirring again.

5.  Add the beef back into the pan.  In a small cup mix the beef broth and cornstarch together .

6. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, beef broth/cornstarch mixture into the pan.

7. Cook until the mixture is only slightly liquidy (about 75% of the mixture is above liquid), 3-5 minutes.

8. Turn off the heat, add in the provolone cheese.

9. Assemble in baking dish with the Hawaiian Rolls. Brush the top of the buns with butter.

10. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
